Thomas Babcock, 2008Special Olympics Ontario is a community-based program. Its primary instrument of program delivery is the local sport clubs, which gives athletes the opportunity to train and compete twelve months of the year.

Special Olympics believes that consistent training is essential to the development of sports skills, and that competition among those of equal abilities is the most appropriate means of testing these skills, measuring progress and providing incentives for personal growth.

Skate Canada is committed to providing special needs athletes with program and competitive Kyle Mayhew, 2008opportunities. Liaising regularly with Special Olympics Canada as well as other sport organizations for athletes with a disability, Skate Canada provides updates and support to member clubs regarding strategies on how to integrate Special Olympians and other special needs skaters into regular club programming.

2011 Special Olympics Ontario Winter Games, Thunder Bay ON - January 20-23 '11
More than 550 athletes, coaches and team managers, representing the twelve Special Olympics Ontario Regions and competing in six winter sports, including figure skating, are expected to attend. The games will be organized under the auspices of the Thunder Bay Police Service, the City of Thunder Bay and Special Olympics Ontario. These provincial games will be the qualifying event for the 2012 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games.

Alberta's oldest community, St. Albert, will welcome more than 700 athletes, coaches and team leaders from across Canada in February 2012 at the seventh national winter games. We are pleased to announce that Thomas Babcock, Level 2 Singles, has been named to Ontario's Canada Winter Games Team!
